Lady B's Safety School Volume 2 of the Allowed to Say NO! Series
The material in the three-volume Allowed to Say NO! book series enables teachers to meet the required learning outcomes for the core curriculum competencies and content requirements of the British Columbia Ministry of Education regarding appropriate and inappropriate touch for Grade 1 students.
The teaching points included in Volume 2: Lady B’s Safety School will enable first grade students to: ✔ recognize specific emotions and feelings related to maintaining healthy physical boundaries; ✔ identify the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touch that hurts or makes them feel uncomfortable, including but not exclusive to the touching of private parts; ✔ identify grooming techniques aimed to break down their resistance to uncomfortable touch; ✔ develop personal refusal skills regarding inappropriate touch, including the recognition that they have the right to withhold consent to being touched if they are uncomfortable; ✔ identify a support network of trusted adults; ✔ develop skills to ask trusted adults for help when they are uncomfortable; and ✔ name private body parts.
The Teacher’s Guide includes: ⦁Complete lesson plans for a 6-week module; ⦁engaging and interactive class activities; ⦁10 easily copied colouring pages (with author’s permission); ⦁a sample letter to send home to parents describing the unit; and ⦁information for teachers about sexual abuse.
Each weekly lesson is divided into a primary session of approximately thirty to forty-five minutes, and a second session of approximately fifteen minutes to reinforce the weeks lesson.
