Lady B's Safety School
Volume 2 of the Allowed to Say NO! Series By Ralph F. Frank
Jesse idolizes his neighbour, an airline pilot, who offers him flattery, gifts, and a special outing, but grows increasingly uncomfortable with this attention and uninvited touch. At Lady B’s Safety School, on the first branch of his backyard oak tree, she reminds Jesse that he is allowed to say “NO!”. She teaches him how to respond to inappropriate secrets, gifts, and tricks and helps him identify trusted adults he can ask for help. This book continues the conversation about a child’s right to withhold consent when it comes to unwanted touch. By the end of the story, having defined what feels safe, Jesse chooses Lady B to be his co-pilot.
"It’s your body. You get to decide who touches you. It’s called consent. If you don’t say ‘YES’ , there is NO consent!"
"My children connected with Lady B and Jesse and enjoyed reading Lady B's Safety School. It is fun to consider taking advice from a ladybug! As a parent, I was relieved to have a way to start the conversation about touch and consent. In our home we now refer to trusting our in-sticks." - Dr. J. Lajoie, ob/gyn
“Lady B’s Safety School brings attention to the topics of consent and unwanted touch in a way that is both straightforward and approachable for young readers. Reading this book with my son, I appreciated how easy it was to engage in a discussion around Jesse’s story as we identified ways to handle similar situations. We will be keeping this book in our repertoire and referring back to Lady B to help reinforce these important safety skills.” - Spencer Leakey, CPA
"Lady B’s Safety School is an important tool to add to every teacher’s and parent’s tool box. It is so vital that we arm our children with information and show them how to navigate and what to do with uncomfortable feelings and situations. We must empower our children to help them live in a safer today and this book does just that." - Lindsay Ford, Author and Illustrator of Bread & Clutter children’s books
